5 Reasons To Fall In Love With Montezuma

I fell in love with Montezuma the first time during my visit 1991 because it’s a small charming fishing village with lots of character and abundant nature. I am living here now since 15 years and every time I travel to other places, I fall in love with it again… I love to share with you the best Montezuma has to offer, so you know what to expect when choosing it as one of your future destinations and I promise you won’t be disappointed…..

1 . Famous Blue Zones

The Nicoya peninsula counts as one of 5 worldwide Blue Zones : these are places where people live longer and healthier than anywhere else in the world! Reasons for this are i.e. the high calcium and magnesium content in the water, which is supportive of healthy bones. An active lifestyle and exposure to healthy doses of sun to increase your natural intake of vitamin D. I have personally also discovered that living with the natural rhythm of day and night is extremely healing. Sunrise and sunset are all year round between 5.30 and 6 am/pm and therefore you will go to bed early, have a good deep restful sleep and wake up early with the sun and the beautiful sound of the monkeys and birds….the body will be grateful and you can leave your watch behind 🙂

2.  A Great Community for Health and Yoga

Montezuma is a small and very health oriented community. I find this very inspiring and people who come and visit will feel immediately welcome and at home. After 2 days people will already start greeting you when you walk into town. So if you are traveling alone you can very easily connect with like minded people and feel safe and at ease. There is a famous saying in Costa Rica ” Pura Vida” which translates to “pure life” and you will tap into this spirit very easily. Costa Rica has been ranked number 1 as the happiest country on earth 🙂  When you come for a yoga retreat you will be even more open to receive all this magical energy and maybe surprised how fast transformation takes place….

3. Eat Healthy Foods

We are very proud of our weekly organic market in town. We get all kinds of fresh organic vegetables and fruits delivered every Saturday, even Kale! I feel I have never been eating better, so pure, local and simply delicious. You can choose between many great restaurants, but definitely visit our favorite in Montezuma called “Playa De Los Artistas”, well known for their daily changing menu with very creative options from vegetarian/vegan to seafood specialties. They have been named by The New York Times as one of the best restaurants in Costa Rica!  If you choose to spend your yoga retreat at Montezuma Yoga you are right across the street from Playa Los Artistas and will enjoy dinner there every night. Another great and very popular option is Clandestina restaurant, serving latin-american cuisine and a great selection of home brewed beers 😉

Our other wonderful local yoga retreat centers The Sanctuary  and Anamaya Resort offer all-inclusive retreats with Gourmet Vegetarian food. You will leave Montezuma feeling nourished in many ways and your body will be grateful.

4. Enjoy our abundant nature!

Imagine beautiful, empty and unspoiled beaches where you can walk for hours or take a horseback ride, pristine clear rivers and waterfalls in which you can swim and float, gorgeous trees, flowers and abundant wildlife. Practice yoga to the sound of the howler monkeys, birds and crickets, something I always miss when traveling to other places….

The nearby village Cabuya has still a very original vibe with fishermen catching fresh fish and pelicans chilling out on the rocks. Here you can also find Costa Rica’s first national park called Cabo Blanco marking the tip of the Peninsula de Nicoya as well as Cemetery Island, which you can only visit at low tide!

5.  Choose one of our many great excursions:

Take a boat trip for some snorkeling at the beautiful Tortuga Island. Depending on the time of year you might be lucky to see dolphins on your way or even whales!

Another great thing to do is the canopy zip line over the waterfall or maybe take a surf lesson…..your week will pass by way too fast to enjoy all that Montezuma has to offer!

And if you just like to rejuvenate you can relax by the pool or enjoy our wonderful body workers in town offering great types of massages….and of course our gorgeous beaches invite you for a long walk as well!
